Check a file before you hit send
Sharing feels finished when the attachment is attached. The risky part is usually invisible: GPS in a photo, an author field in a PDF, an API key in a DOCX paste, a QR that encodes a shortened login URL, or Content Credentials that reveal a tool chain. Uploading the same file to a random “scanner” copies every secret to someone else. A local inspector that groups what it can see — and refuses to call the result 100% safe — is how you slow down without inventing a full DLP program.
Why this is worth doing in the browser
DevNestro’s Safe-to-Share File Inspector runs in the browser for PDF, DOCX, JPG/JPEG/PNG/WebP, and TXT. It reuses detectors already used elsewhere on the site: privacy and secret patterns, photo EXIF/GPS where supported, PDF metadata fields, Content Credentials presence checks, and optional QR decode on images. Findings are grouped into Privacy, Secrets, Metadata, Links, QR, Provenance, and Technical. Empty results are labeled “No obvious privacy issues detected,” never “guaranteed safe.” Fix actions deep-link to Metadata Cleaner, Privacy Redactor, Document Privacy Cleaner, QR Safety, Secret Leak Inspector, and File Share when you still need a controlled send.
How to use the tool
Drop a supported file, wait for the local scan, read each group, and open the linked cleaner for the category that matters. Clear drops the file from the page. Analytics may record that the tool ran, not the file bytes. Pair with Scam Message & Link Checker when the risk is a message, not a document.
- Treat an empty report as incomplete coverage, not a green light.
- Prefer Document Privacy Cleaner for PDF author fields and Photo Metadata Cleaner for GPS.
- Send sensitive files with File Share only after you cleaned what you can.
- Still open the file yourself. Custom formats and odd encodings are missed.

Inspection runs in your browser. Files are not uploaded to DevNestro for this tool and are not sent to analytics.
Before you mail a PDF or drop a screenshot in chat, open Safe-to-Share and read the grouped findings.
