Index files in a temporary Gemini store, then delete the store when you leave
Ordinary Files API objects expire on Google’s schedule. File Search stores are different: embeddings can remain until you delete the store. DevNestro therefore creates one temporary store per visitor session, imports each uploaded file after the Files API marks it active, and queries generateContent with the File Search tool pointed at that store only. There is no shared public index of other people’s documents. Delete AI Search Session is a first-class button. A cleanup job also expires idle sessions after the configured hour.
Why this is worth doing in the browser
Semantic search over a folder is useful when keyword find misses a paraphrase. It is also a longer-lived copy of your content at Google than a one-shot summary. The page says that twice: in the consent line and in the privacy article. If you cannot send the files to Google, do not create a session. Related tools include Gemini PDF Chat for a single PDF without a File Search store, and the local Diff Checker if you only need a text compare.
How to use the tool
Upload one or more supported documents, confirm cloud processing, and create the session. Ask a question. Read the grounded draft. Press Delete AI Search Session when you finish. Leaving the page also tries to delete the store. Rate limits use the file window.
- Delete the session even if the answers were useless.
- Do not index credentials, medical files, or customer lists.
- Ask one question at a time so you can see what the store actually used.
- If delete fails, assume Google may still hold embeddings until cleanup retries.
Privacy
Files and questions are sent to Google Gemini File Search. DevNestro stores only store id, timestamps, and file name handles—not file bytes. The store and imported files are deleted when you press Delete AI Search Session, when you leave, or when the session expires. This is cloud AI, not local search.
Need semantic questions over a small set of files you can send to Google? Open Gemini File Search, ask once, and delete the session.
