Inspect a file once, then pick the right DevNestro tool or workflow
People often know they have a PDF or a photo, but not which DevNestro page to open next. Re-uploading the same file into compress, redactor, metadata cleaner, and share tools wastes time and raises the chance of sending the wrong version. A single inspector that names the type honestly, shows size and basic metadata, and points to tools and Smart Workflows is the missing front door.
Why this is worth doing in the browser
DevNestro’s Universal File Inspector reads magic bytes for PDF, JPEG, PNG, WebP, and ZIP-based Office packages when present, then falls back to MIME and filename. It does not trust the extension alone. Image dimensions load in the browser; PDF page counts use the existing pdf.js path lazily. Recommendations come from a capability resolver tied to CapabilityKeys, the tool catalog, and the workflow catalog. Starting a workflow creates a browser-local IndexedDB session with the file already attached — no server storage of private bytes.
How to use the tool
Drop a file, read the summary (kind, MIME, size, pages or dimensions), open a recommended tool, or press Start on a Smart Workflow to continue with the same artifact. Pair with Safe-to-Share when privacy is the main concern, or File Hash when integrity is the question.
- Treat signature detection as stronger than extension claims.
- Do not assume inspection equals a malware scan.
- Use Start Workflow when you want multi-step processing without re-upload.
- Clear temporary workflow files from Workspace when you are done on a shared device.
Privacy
Inspection and recommendations run in the browser. Files are not uploaded to DevNestro. Workflow handoff uses IndexedDB on this device only. Analytics does not receive file contents.
Not sure which tool to open? Drop the file into Universal File Inspector and start from the recommendations.
