Clean a CSV or Excel export before you import it
Exports from CRMs and finance tools arrive with blank rows, duplicated emails, padded spaces, and column names that break importers. Cleaning in Excel by hand is slow and easy to over-delete. Uploading the workbook to a “magic cleaner” copies every customer row. A local cleaner that analyzes first, waits for checkboxes, and shows rows-before versus rows-after is the safe default for office data.
Why this is worth doing in the browser
Silent conversion is how a date becomes the wrong month. DevNestro’s CSV / Excel Data Cleaner analyzes in the browser (XLSX via a lazy spreadsheet library) and lists problems: duplicate rows, empty rows, whitespace, empty columns, duplicate keys you select, obviously invalid email shape. It does not rewrite anything until you choose operations: remove duplicates, drop empty rows or columns, trim, normalize spaces, normalize header names. Duplicate detection can follow Email, Phone, or an ID column you tick. Email cleanup can trim and lowercase the domain; it does not claim the address exists. Phone formatting waits for an explicit country. Dates only normalize to a format you pick. Find/replace is literal first. Undo exists until you download. Workers and a virtualized preview keep large sheets from freezing the tab.
How to use the tool
Upload CSV or XLSX, read the analysis, tick operations, preview counts, undo if needed, export CSV or XLSX. Send a clean table to the Data Converter when you need JSON or YAML next. Related text tools stay available for line-level duplicates that are not tabular.
- Read the problem list before you tick Remove Duplicate Rows.
- Choose duplicate columns yourself; do not assume Email is always the key.
- Pick a date format instead of letting the tool guess 03/04.
- Download a copy and keep the original export.
Privacy
Spreadsheets are processed in your browser. Cell values and filenames are not uploaded to DevNestro and are not sent to analytics. The Excel library loads only when you open an XLSX file.
Stop deleting rows by eye. Open the Data Cleaner, preview the damage, then download a file you actually meant to change.
