Move structured data between JSON, CSV, XML, and YAML
APIs speak JSON. Spreadsheets speak CSV. Config files speak YAML. Integration tests still want XML. Copying between those shapes by hand is how commas vanish and attributes become mystery keys. A converter that runs in the tab lets you paste or upload a file, pick input and output formats, and download the result without parking a customer export on someone else’s server.
Why this is worth doing in the browser
Naive XML parsers resolve external entities. Naive YAML loaders execute tags. That is how a “quick convert” becomes an XXE or constructor gadget. DevNestro’s converter disables DTD resolution, rejects YAML tags, and reports invalid JSON, XML, YAML, or malformed CSV with line or position hints when the parser provides them—never a stack trace. Nested objects that cannot become a table are refused for CSV instead of silently flattened into garbage. Pretty or compact JSON, indent 2 or 4, CSV delimiter and header options stay explicit. A virtualized table preview shows a slice of large tabular output so the page does not paint 100,000 DOM rows.
How to use the tool
Paste or upload .json, .csv, .xml, .yaml, or .yml. Choose formats, convert, then copy, download, clear, or swap. If you cleaned a spreadsheet first, the data cleaner can hand off CSV into this tool. Continue to JSON Formatter or JSON to C# when you need pretty-print or classes instead of a format change.
- Set input format to match the file, not the extension you hope it is.
- Use CSV only when the data is an array of objects or a rectangular table.
- Treat YAML tags and XML DTDs as errors, not features.
- Download the output and keep the original until you have verified a sample.
