Stay inside the bio, SMS, and meta description limit

Platforms do not care that your sentence is elegant. They cut it. LinkedIn headlines, Instagram bios, SMS, and meta descriptions all punish overflow: the extra words vanish, or the message splits into an awkward second bubble. A character counter is the difference between a line that publishes and a line that gets truncated mid-thought.

Why this is worth doing in the browser

People draft in a notes app, paste into the form, and discover the limit only after the preview chops the last claim. That last claim is usually the point. The DevNestro Character Counter shows the length while you edit, so you rewrite for the box you actually have instead of hoping the platform is generous.

How to use the tool

Paste the candidate line, watch the count, and cut until it fits. Use it before you ship a product meta description, a store SMS, or a profile that has to carry a URL. Pair it with the Word Counter when the same text also has an essay-style word target.

  1. Paste the line you plan to publish, not a shorter placeholder.
  2. Count once with spaces and once without if the platform documents both.
  3. Put the unique phrase first so a truncation still makes sense.
  4. Copy the final string and paste it into the live form in one move.

Privacy

Counts run in your current site session. DevNestro does not store bios or marketing copy as a history, and you do not need an account.

If the box is 160 characters, write 160 characters on purpose. Open the Character Counter and make the cutoff your last edit, not the platform’s.
