Share one word per day without a database
A Word of the Day feature fails when each visitor gets a different random word, or when the site invents etymology as fact. DevNestro maps a UTC calendar date to one entry in an open curated list so every visitor sees the same word that day. Definitions prefer open dictionary data; Gemini explanations are optional and labeled AI.
Why this is worth doing in the browser
Many WOTD widgets scrape famous dictionaries or invent charming histories. Both break the copyright and trust rules of this suite. Deterministic selection needs no database and no personalization cookie — just a stable hash from date to list index.
How to use the tool
Open the page, read today’s word, skim the recent archive, and copy share text if you want to send it. Jump to Dictionary or Pronunciation Helper for more. Treat AI explanation as a short teaching note, not a formal etymology.
- Read the shared word before you request an AI explanation.
- Use the archive list to review the last several UTC days.
- Copy share text when you want a consistent classroom prompt.
- Verify senses in Dictionary before you teach the word as settled fact.

Word selection is local and deterministic. Definition enrichment may call the open dictionary API. AI explanation uses Gemini when configured and is not presented as a formal dictionary source. Content is not logged to analytics as writing.
