Find synonyms without calling AI a formal thesaurus

Writers do not only need “another word.” They need a word that fits register: formal enough for a report, calm enough for support email, sharp enough for a headline. A thesaurus that dumps a flat list without saying where the list came from is only half a tool. DevNestro’s Synonym & Antonym Finder starts from open dictionary synonym and antonym fields, then optionally asks Gemini to group some of those words by tone — and labels that grouping as AI.

Why this is worth doing in the browser

Commercial rhyme and word APIs often restrict free tiers to non-commercial use. Shipping Datamuse into a customer-facing product without a commercial agreement would be reckless. Scraping a paper thesaurus would be worse. The middle path is open lexical fields plus clearly labeled AI suggestions that never claim to be Merriam-Webster.

How to use the tool

Enter a word, review synonyms and antonyms from open data, and turn on AI tone groups only if you accept cloud processing. Verify any substitution in the Dictionary tool before you publish. Grammar Helper can rewrite a full sentence if a single synonym is not enough.

  1. Search the base word you already understand in context.
  2. Prefer open-data synonyms first; treat AI tone groups as optional hints.
  3. Reject any AI suggestion that changes meaning or politeness.
  4. Confirm the chosen word in Dictionary before it hits a client email.

Privacy

Open-data lookups are cached briefly on the server. AI tone groups use Gemini when enabled and are not cached as a private thesaurus of your writing. Writing content is not sent to analytics.
