Hear the draft before you record it
A script is easier to judge when you can hear it. Text to Speech in DevNestro takes typed text or an imported TXT, Markdown, CSV, DOCX, or PDF, then speaks it locally with Kokoro. You pick a voice from the list the model actually provides, preview a short sample, set speed, and download WAV. There is no ElevenLabs key and no cloud speech bill.
Why this is worth doing in the browser
Most “free TTS” sites upload the paragraph to a vendor. That is the wrong default for a lesson, a letter, or a private brief. DevNestro shares one local engine with Script to Video Maker, so the model is not downloaded twice in the same session. English voices are listed after the engine is ready. Urdu, Arabic, and Hindi can still be typed, imported, and saved as text; they are not spoken with an English voice.
How to use the tool
Paste or import, choose Auto detect or English, prepare the voice engine once, preview Heart or Bella or Michael, then generate. Long documents are split on paragraphs and sentences so the UI stays responsive. Cancel stops remaining chunks. Change the voice and regenerate without losing the original text. WAV is the download format in this version because the project does not ship ffmpeg.wasm.
- Prepare the engine only when you intend to generate or preview, so the homepage does not download the model.
- Preview more than one voice on the same sentence before you generate a long file.
- Import a document only if you accept replacing or appending; nothing is overwritten silently.
- Download WAV and keep the text. If the language is not English, use captions or an uploaded recording in Script to Video instead of faking the accent.
Privacy
Speech runs in your browser. Text, imported files, and generated audio are not sent to a speech service. The voice model may download from a trusted host on first use.
If you need to hear the words, do not paste them into a cloud voice demo. Open Text to Speech, pick a real local voice, and download the file from this device.
