Share a stack without sharing your username
Exception text is useful. C:\Users\your.name\source\repos\payroll is not. Neither is a connection string that rode along in InnerException. Teams dump stacks into Slack because that is faster than sanitizing. A cleaner that keeps the call stack and replaces Users\…, /home/…, WIN- prefixes, and common secrets is how you ask for help without doxing the laptop.
Why this is worth doing in the browser
DevNestro’s Stack Trace Safe-Share Cleaner runs entirely in the browser. It replaces Windows and Unix home segments with [USER], UNC hosts and common machine prefixes with [HOST], then optionally runs the shared privacy detectors so emails, IPs, JWTs, and connection strings become redaction tokens. An extra checkbox replaces remaining path tails with [PATH] so you can keep C:\Users\[USER]\[PATH] instead of a full repo layout. It does not rewrite every internal hostname and it does not claim the result is anonymous.
How to use the tool
Paste the stack, leave secret redaction on unless you know the log is already clean, optionally redact paths, create a safe copy, and copy it. Send it to the Privacy Redactor if you still see names. Pair with Secret Leak Inspector when the paste is a config, not a stack.
- Keep secret redaction on for production logs.
- Use path redaction when the folder names themselves are sensitive.
- Read the output; custom server names can remain.
- Do not treat this as a complete PII program.

Cleaning runs in your browser. Stack traces are not uploaded to DevNestro and are not sent to analytics.
