Write robots.txt groups without mystery directives
A robots.txt file is often copied from a blog post that mixes Crawl-delay folklore with vendor-specific tokens. Publishers need a clean generator that can emit a default * group plus named AI crawler groups without pretending the file is a firewall.
Why this is worth doing in the browser
DevNestro’s Robots.txt Generator supports Simple mode for one group and Advanced mode for multiple User-agent blocks with Allow, Disallow, and Sitemap lines. Output is limited to standard directives used for matching; unexplained nonstandard directives are not invented. Comments remind you that robots.txt expresses preferences.
How to use the tool
Choose Simple or Advanced, add paths and optional Sitemap URLs, generate, host the file at /robots.txt, then verify with Robots.txt Tester and AI Crawler Checker.
- robots.txt is not access control.
- Test named crawlers separately from *.
- Keep Disallow paths intentional — empty Disallow allows all.
- Re-verify after CDN or hosting rewrites root files.
Privacy
Generation stays in the session. API: None.
Draft a clean robots.txt in Robots.txt Generator, then test paths before you deploy.
