Turn a screenshot or scanned PDF into editable text

A photo of a whiteboard, a phone screenshot of an error, or a scanned contract is not a document until the words are text. Typing it by hand is slow and error-prone. Uploading it to a random OCR website is worse when the page contains names, account numbers, or exam questions. Local OCR keeps the pixels on the device and still gives you a textarea you can copy, download, or hand to Text to Speech.

Why this is worth doing in the browser

Cloud OCR products exist because models are large. They also copy the image. DevNestro OCR uses a maintained browser engine (Tesseract.js) loaded only after you pick a file, and language packs load only for the language you select. PDFs go through PDF.js first: if a real text layer is present, that text is extracted and pages are not burned through OCR. Scanned pages are rendered and recognized. You can limit work to all pages, the first page, or a validated range such as 1-5, 8, 12. Optional grayscale, contrast, and rotate stay local and off by default so the tool does not “improve” a photo into mush without asking.

How to use the tool

Drop an image or PDF, choose a language, set page range for PDFs, optionally preprocess, then extract. Progress names the page. Cancel stops the worker. Copy the editable result, download TXT, or open Text to Speech through the existing client handoff. Related PDF tools stay one click away when you need merge or edit instead of recognition.

  1. Start with a sharp, well-lit capture; OCR is not a mind reader.
  2. Leave searchable PDFs alone: if the text layer is there, DevNestro uses it.
  3. Load one language at a time instead of downloading every pack.
  4. Proofread before you treat the output as a legal or medical record.

Privacy

Images and PDFs are processed in your browser. They are not uploaded to DevNestro. Language data may download from a trusted host when you select a language. Extracted text is not sent to analytics.

Stop retyping screenshots. Open OCR, extract locally, and send the text to Text to Speech only if you want it read aloud.
