Split a bill without turning friends into a ledger
A shared dinner should not become a spreadsheet argument. Someone paid the card. Someone else only drank water. Tax and service sit on the receipt as percents. Tip is a choice, not a loan. People want a plain list: what each person owes, what they already paid, and the few transfers that settle the table. Doing that on a napkin drops a cent. Doing it in a banking app often implies credit. A splitter that stays in the browser and never mentions EMI is the right size of tool.
Why this is worth doing in the browser
DevNestro’s Bill & Group Expense Splitter runs in the page session. Add people, then either enter a subtotal for an equal split or assign line items to the people who shared them. Tax, service charge, and tip are percentages of the subtotal. You choose how leftover cents are given out: bankers rounding, away from zero, toward the person who paid, or toward the largest share. Paid-by amounts produce settlements with a greedy match so Ada does not collect from Bea and then pay Cam if one transfer will do. The tool does not calculate interest, APR, mortgages, or installment plans. It does not store the bill after you leave.
How to use the tool
Add names, choose equal split or item assignment, enter tax, service, and tip if the receipt has them, mark who paid, then copy the summary or download TXT or PDF. Related Percentage Calculator is for a single percent question. Related Discount Calculator is for a sale price, not a table split.
- Use item assignment when one person skipped a course.
- Keep tip as a percent of the pre-tax subtotal unless your group agrees otherwise.
- Check the settlement list before anyone sends money.
- Do not treat leftover cents as interest. They are rounding.
