Filter words for games without Scrabble or Wordle branding
Puzzle players ask for words that fit a pattern. That is a filter problem, not a franchise problem. DevNestro’s Word Finder is intentionally generic: no Scrabble scoring tables, no Wordle daily puzzle branding, no claim to be an official tournament lexicon. It filters a curated open English word list with starts-with, ends-with, contains, exact length, include/exclude letters, and * / ? wildcards.
Why this is worth doing in the browser
Many “word finder” pages either scrape a trademarked word list or imply affiliation with a board game. Both are unnecessary. An open list plus clear filters is enough for classroom warmups, crossword drafting, and casual games — as long as the page says what it is not.
How to use the tool
Set the filters you know, leave the rest blank, and search. Combine with Dictionary to confirm meanings and with Rhyme Finder when sound matters. Results are capped so the page stays readable.
- Enter the strongest constraint first — often exact length or a wildcard pattern.
- Add must-include letters when you are working from a rack of tiles.
- Exclude letters you already ruled out in a guessing game.
- Verify unfamiliar hits in Dictionary before you play them in a serious match.
Privacy
The word list loads on demand on the server. Filter queries are not treated as private writing for analytics.
