Preview snippets from metadata without a fake SEO score
Marketing wants to know how a page might look in a result list or on LinkedIn before the CMS is live. Developers want to see whether og:title and a description exist. Neither job needs a vendor “score” that pretends to know Google’s ranker. A preview built from metadata you paste is honest. Fetching a public URL is useful only if the server refuses to become an open proxy into localhost, cloud metadata, or your office printer.
Why this is worth doing in the browser
DevNestro’s SEO & Social Preview Checker has two modes. Paste title, description, canonical, Open Graph, and Twitter/X fields to render an approximate search snippet and social cards, labelled as previews. URL mode uses ISafePublicUrlFetcher: http and https only, DNS resolution, block lists for loopback, RFC1918, link-local, IPv6 local ranges, CGNAT, multicast, and metadata-style hosts, no automatic redirect into a private IP, limited hops, timeout, and a response size cap. HTML is parsed without executing JavaScript. Checks report Present, Missing, or Needs Review for title, description, canonical, viewport, robots, H1 count, Open Graph, and social image. Length hints are general guidance, not search-engine law.
How to use the tool
Start with paste mode while you draft tags. Use Inspect URL only for public pages. Read the checks; do not treat a green list as a ranking promise. Pair with the URL Toolkit when you need to rewrite a canonical or UTM, or QR when you need a scannable link.
- Label every mockup as a preview, including when you share a screenshot internally.
- Do not enter intranet URLs; they are blocked on purpose.
- Fix missing title or description in the CMS rather than chasing a numeric score.
- Confirm the social image URL is a public http(s) image, not a tracking pixel you did not intend to load.
Privacy
Pasted metadata stays in the session. URL inspection retrieves public HTML through DevNestro with private-address blocking. Page bodies are not used to train models. Analytics does not store the inspected URL contents.
