Trace public redirect chains hop by hop
Mixed http/https chains, accidental loops, and redirects into private IPs are operational and security problems. A checker must never blindly follow Location into localhost or link-local metadata.
Why this is worth doing in the browser
DevNestro’s Redirect Checker uses the central safe fetcher: http/https only, DNS resolution with rejection if any address is private, re-parse/re-resolve/re-validate on every hop, size and redirect caps, DevNestro user agent, no cookies, no Authorization. Results show the chain, loop detection, HTTP→HTTPS upgrade flag, and final URL. Rate limited.
How to use the tool
Enter a public URL, run the check, read the chain top to bottom, and fix loops or http leftovers before SEO tools assume a stable final URL. Pair with Header and Canonical checkers on the final destination.
- Private redirect targets are blocked.
- Rate limits apply per client IP.
- Prefer fixing chains to a single https hop when possible.
- Do not impersonate Googlebot when debugging live sites.
Privacy
DevNestro contacts the public URL you enter through the safe fetcher only; responses are not archived.
Suspect a messy chain? Run Redirect Checker before you trust a canonical or sitemap loc.
