Check whether an image contains evidence associated with AI generation

People now ask a blunt question of almost every striking picture: was this photographed, generated, or both? There is still no universal detector that can answer that for every modern model. What you can do is gather evidence: signed provenance when it exists, software tags in metadata, and a local classifier that reports a signal rather than a courtroom verdict. That stack is slower than a fake “100% real” badge and more honest.

Why this is worth doing in the browser

A missing EXIF block does not make a file authentic. A missing Content Credential does not make it fake. A detector score of 91% is the model’s classification confidence, not a 91% chance the pixels came from a generator. The DevNestro AI Image Detector keeps the file on your device, reuses the same Content Credentials and photo-metadata inspectors as the rest of the site, and only then lazy-loads a Community Forensics vision model in the browser. It will not detect Google SynthID. It will not swear a camera JPEG is a camera JPEG.

How to use the tool

Drop a JPG, PNG, or WebP, wait for the preview, then start analysis so the model download is explicit. Read the overall category first — strong provenance, high likelihood, some indicators, none found, or inconclusive — then the four cards. Open Content Credentials Checker for a dedicated provenance pass, or Photo Metadata Cleaner if you need to strip tags before you share. Use Screenshot Redactor when the file is a UI capture, not a photograph.

  1. Use the original file, not a photo of a screen, when you can.
  2. Treat Content Credentials AI disclosures as the strongest signal this tool has.
  3. Treat metadata generator names as useful and spoofable.
  4. If the image is tiny or heavily compressed, expect Inconclusive more often than a loud label.

Privacy

Pixels stay in the browser. The optional detector weights download to your machine from the model host on first use. DevNestro does not upload the image to a cloud AI detector and does not require an API key.

Ask what evidence the file actually carries. Open the AI Image Detector, read the category, and keep the word “proof” for things this page does not claim.
