Number pages without opening a desktop publisher
Merged packs and scanned packets often arrive without usable page numbers. Reviewers ask “which page?” and you shrug. Burning numbers into a new PDF with a clear format — plain 1, Page 1, Page 1 of N, dashed, or custom prefix/suffix — is a small job that should not require Acrobat. Doing it in the browser keeps the file on the device.
Why this is worth doing in the browser
DevNestro’s PDF Page Numbers tool lets you pick six corner/center positions, font size, start number, skip first page, and first-only or last-only options. Preview shows page one of the result. Download writes a new file. The original is not modified. Processing uses the shared pdf-tools client (mountPageNumbers) alongside Merge, Split, and Watermark.
How to use the tool
Drop a PDF, choose format and position, set start number, preview, download, or Start Over. Related Watermark marks drafts; Protect adds a password when the packet should not open freely.
- Skip first when page one is a cover you want unnumbered.
- Start number helps appendices that continue a binder sequence.
- First-only and last-only are mutually exclusive use cases — pick one intent.
- Numbers sit on top of content; leave margin if text already hugs the edge.
